Check out this introductory presentation about The Legacy Offset.
VictoriaLand is releasing a groundbreaking offset category for compensating our carbon footprint and restoring nature on the planet. The product, called the Legacy Offset, combines three distinct offsets into a single bundle: the well known carbon offset (measured by tons of CO2 sequestered), a biodiversity offset (for native species protection and regeneration), and the novel food security offset.
Our economic and daily activities have a carbon footprint, but they also impact biodiversity and humanity’s future capacity to produce food.
The Legacy Offset abides by the rules of the DEV Standard. Decentralized Environmental Verification (DEV) guarantees radical transparency by democratizing and crowdsourcing the validation of the data behind the claims of The Legacy Offset.
With the Legacy Offset you can trust data instead of the certifier. The Legacy Offset is a complete transparency revolution:
1.- It digitalizes the spaces where the offset solutions are deployed (by sending and setting up a series of data collection technologies). This forms a reliable baseline, not only as numbers in a document as normal offsets do, but as a live data canvas (a digital copy) accessible by everyone.
2.- These digital copies are called Intelligent Natural Assets (INAs), and you and anyone can verify all data in a user-friendly way.
3.- These traceable, open data, verifiable solutions are implemented under the world’s watch. There are no blind spots, there is no greenwashing, there is no simulation possible.
Each Legacy Offset is specific to a certain place (land or ocean) and time (the current year). That’s really important because it means that Victoria doesn’t plant trees and assume they are protected forever. Legacy Offsets represent real work, this year, and each year there are new offsets and new work. Why? Because that’s how everything works: companies, schools, life. Turning the planet around isn’t something we can defer to future years. It takes real work every year to protect what we have left and to make nature strong enough to support all life -including humans- in the long term. That’s what Victoria’s Legacy Offset is all about.
Victoria is protecting land around the world, helping landowners to prevent land from being sold for exploitation and instead getting funds to improve the ecosystem that exists on it. Meaning that if there were supposed to be bees and they have mostly died out, it is time for reintroducing the bees (biodiversity), and perhaps fruit trees that were once local to the area for the bees to feed on and to harvest to feed local indigenous groups (food security). These trees increase the carbon capture into the soil, and the trifecta is complete.
